Abstract

942,942. Forming selvedges in shuttleless looms. V.M.J.ANCET , AND M.FAYOLLE. Dec. 14, 1959 [Dec. 12, 1958], No. 42359/59. Headings D1E and D1K. Selvedges are formed in a shuttleless loom by incorporating thermoplastic warp threads in the edge of the fabric, slitting the fabric in the thermoplastic zone by means of a cutter wheel 18 (which may have a zigzag edge), discarding the strip 35 containing the projecting end of weft, and fusing the edge of the fabric by means of a jet of hot air. The jet is produced by an electrically-driven fan and electric heater elements in a casing 24, the fan being switched off when the loom stops but the heater being left on. The cutter wheel 18 operates against a hard steel roller 5 geared to the take-up roller 6. The fabric is kept in line with the cutter by closely-fitting channels 10.
