Abstract

941,615. Preheating processes for evaporator feed liquids. A.P.V. CO. Ltd. Aug. 25, 1961 [Sept. 7, 1960], No. 30829/60. Heading B1B. In a process for preheating the feed to an evaporator, at least a part of the vapour produced in the evaporator passes via duct 1 into the direct contact condenser 2, where it is condensed by contact with a spray of cold liquid issuing from the spray-head 3. The hot condensate thus obtained is circulated via line 4 through the heat exchanger 6, which may be of the plate-type, where it transfers heat to a countercurrent flow of feed to the evaporator. The cooled condensate returns to the condenser 2 via line 4 for further use as a cooling medium. Excess condensate is continually removed from condenser 2 by the outlet 8. Also described is a system using a number of evaporation stages, each stage being provided with a condenser circuit according to the invention, the feed to the first evaporator being passed through the individual heat-exchangers in series.
