Abstract
941,415. Idler rollers for conveyer belts. CONSOLIDATION COAL CO. Jan. 16, 1961, No. 1740/61. Heading B8A. Each end of an idler roller assembly for supporting conveyer belts comprises an annular member 20 of rubber or like resilient material supported on a bearing assembly 18. The end 40 of a roller tube 10 engages a flange 36 on the member 20 and inward axial movement of the bearing assembly is prevented by a washer and ring 42, 44. In assembling the roller, each of the bearing assemblies is forced axially inwardly to distort the resilient members 20 to the form shown in Fig. 2, snap-rings 48 then being inserted in grooves 46. Modifications.-(a) The roller tube is flanged at its ends and the resilient members are unflanged, Fig. 3 (not shown). (b) The resilient members have inwardly extending flanges which form stops for the bearing assemblies, Fig. 4 (not shown). (c) The resilient members and the roller tube have no flanges, the diameter of the tube-engaging surface of the resilient members and the diameter of the inner surface of the tube being such that a force fit is provided, Fig. 6 (not shown). (d) In Fig. 8, a lubricant reservoir is provided between a tube 130 and the shaft 12, shoulder portions 132 on the tube serving to limit inward movement of the bearing assemblies 96.
