Abstract

941,282. Shuttleless looms. MANCHESTER COLLEGE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY. Feb. 11, 1960 [Feb. 14, 1959], No. 5216/59. Heading D1E. Weft A1 is placed between two rapidly rotating rollers 10, 11 which project it endwise into the shed. The rollers 10, 11 may have rubber tyres and the roller 10 is so mounted on a lever 15, pivoted at 16, that it held normally apart from the roller 11. Movement of a cam 18 and follower 19 causes the rollers 10, 11 to move together to project the weft, the rollers 10,11 to move apart and feed rollers 17, 24 to move together to stop the weft; a cam 26 then operates to cause the rollers 17, 24 to reverse to straighten the weft whereupon cutters 28 operate to sever the weft and continued movement of the rollers 17, 24 withdraws the weft end to between the rollers 10, 11 for the next weft insertion. Nozzles 31 may assist in blowing the weft into the shed and a suction nozzle 32 may hold the weft end during straightening of the weft. The rollers 10, 11 may have a decelerating motion to cause weft tension or may be replaced by conical rollers and a guide to move the weft to the smaller ends of the rollers, during projection, and thus cause deceleration.
