Abstract

Relates to penicillins of the general formula <FORM:0940711/C2/1> and non-toxic salts thereof, wherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group and R1 and R2 are the same or different and each is an acyl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl or aralkoxycarbonyl group or R1 is hydrogen, such as dibenzyloxycarbonylamino-oxymethyl penicillin, benzamido-oxymethyl penicillin, a -benzamidooxybutylpenicillin, a -benzamido-oxypentylpenicillin and a -benzamido-oxybenzylpenicillin. The penicillins and their salts may be prepared by reacting 6-aminopenicillanic acid or a neutral salt thereof with an acid chloride of the general formula R.CH.CO.Cl or with a functional equivalent <FORM:0940711/C2/2> thereof as an acylating agent for a primary amino group. Dibenzyloxycarbonylamino - oxyacetic acid having the formula (C6H5.CH2.O.CO)2 NO.CH2 COOH may be prepared by treating a solution of amino-oxyacetic acid in aqueous sodium hydroxide with benzyl chlorocarbonate.
