Abstract

940,580. Packaging-machines. ATELIERS SAINT ELOI. Sept. 4, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960], No. 31732/61. Heading B8C. Fibre strands are packaged in a container of thermo-weldable material, formed of an upper member 11 and a base 10, by means of a can 1 and upper and lower pistons 7, 6 respectively, the base 10 being welded to the upper member 11 by movable jaws 12, 13. After the base 10 has been placed in position on a movable member 3 forming a base for the can 1, the can 1 is filled with fibre strands, clamped on a table 4 by a member 5 and the member 11 fitted over the top of the can. The piston 7, to which a plate 8 is secured, is lowered to the position shown in Fig. 1. The piston 6 is raised to compress the fibre and finally overcomes the downward pressure of the piston 7, thereby raising the partially formed package clear of the can 1 for welding of the base 10. In a modification the jaws 12, 13 are replaced by sectors, the package being rotated between successive welds.
