Abstract
940,387. Transistor switching circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 2, 1960 [June 5, 1959], No. 19549/60. Heading H3T. A circuit, for selectively producing a first output pulse of either polarity at a first output point and a second output pulse of opposite polarity and a second output point in response to an input pulse of predetermined polarity and the value of a " setting " voltage which may assume either of two values, comprises a transformer having primary windings 15, 16 connected in the collector and emitter circuits respectively of a transistor 23 and a centretapped secondary winding 13, the opposite ends of which constitute the two output points, and a further transistor 19 connected in series with the transistor 23 through the winding 16 so that when a negative input pulse is applied to the transistor 19 current flows through the winding 16 but not through the winding 15 unless the " setting " voltage applied to the base of transistor 23 is negative with respect to the voltage established at its emitter by means of the catcher diode 24, the winding 15 having more turns than winding 16 and being connected to produce a flux opposed to that produced by winding 16 so that the relative polarities of the pulses produced by the two halves of the winding 13 depend on the magnitude of the " setting " voltage applied to the base of transistor 23. As described, the circuit is used for setting the state of a bi-stable circuit comprising transistors 1<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP> in accordance with the state of a similar circuit comprising transistors 1, 2, the " setting " voltage being derived from the collector electrode of transistor 1. Thus, the diode 24 is returned to a potential of +4 volts while the voltage applied to the base of transistor 23 is either + 3 or +7 volts depending on whether transistor 1 or 2 is non-conducting. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), NPN transistors are used in place of the transistors 1<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP> and their common emitter resistor is connected to the - 8 volts supply point; the windings 13 and 15 are then combined to form a single winding.
