In apparatus for mixing granular materials with a thermoplastic binder, the container I has two outwardly counter-rotating shafts 2, 3 carrying mixing paddles 6, 7 in the form of annular sector of a circle. The included angle of the paddle sectors is 50-90 degrees and their pitch, which has the same sense on both shafts, less than 45 degrees. The binder is sprayed in through nozzles 9, 10. The materials progress round the mixer, rotating in a helical path round the shafts. The speed of the outer edges of the mixer blades is 2 metres/sec. for material of bulk density 1À5 tons/ m<SP>3</SP>.
