Abstract

940,247. Inflatable dinghies and life-saving equipment. SCHERMULY PISTOL ROCKET APPARATUS Ltd. Feb. 28, 1962 [March 2, 1961], No. 7594/61. Addition to 786,436. Headings B7A, B7S and B7U. A modification of the life saving appliance claimed in Specification 786,436 (i.e. an appliance comprising a tubular body and an inflatable bag which fits in the body when deflated and is connected with the body but which when inflated will leave the body and act as a buoy, the body being made of a material which will sink in the water so that it can serve as a sea anchor and/or as a stirrup for supporting a person being rescued) in which the body comprises a partite tubular body at least one part of which is attached to the inflatable bag so that after inflation thereof said one part sinks or floats in the water in a position which gives, in at least one horizontal direction, substantially the maximum resistance to the water flow past said port. In the embodiment of Figs. 1-3 a cylindrical container 1 houses a dinghy 4 which upon inflation causes the container to divide into halves 2 and 3 so that when the inflated dinghy is floating on the water the halves 2, 3 are suspended below it on lines 11 with their cylindrical surfaces in contact and their rectangular openings 6 substantially vertical. In the embodiment of Figs. 4, 5 only one half (e.g. 2) of the container remains attached to the inflated dinghy 4. It is provided with a buoyancy strip 19 and a weight 18, and is attached to the dinghy by a harness 17 and buoyant line 16.
