Abstract
939,934. Infusion bags. FR. HESSER, MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. Sept. 19, 1961 [Oct. 10, 1960], No. 33454/61. Classes 94(1) and 94(2). In an infusion bag made of permeable paper or the like, and generally of flat form wherein one margin is folded and the others seamed, at least one pleat is formed in at least one of the side walls and extends transversely with respect to, and terminates at, the folded margin, so that the volume of the bag is increased during infusion. In a preferred construction, two flattened folds 2, 3 are formed longitudinally in a blank on web of blanks of paper which has been made heat sealable on one side by a layer of a thermoplastic synthetic material, the blank being made into either a flat bag or one as in Fig. 1 with a bottom fold 4 formed during heat sealing of the lateral margins 5, 6 After insertion of the contents, the bag 1 is either heat sealed as at 7, Fig. 1, or closed by a staple or stitching, a tag being secured thereto, Fig. 5. In an alternative embodiment, the folds 2, 3 are formed to face in the opposite direction. The paper need not be coated, but e.g. a thermoplastic glue may be used instead to join the seams.
