Abstract

939,861. Endless conveyers. HEAD WRIGHTSON & CO. Ltd. Dec. 14, 1961 [Dec. 20, 1960], No. 43801/60. Class 78 (1). A sintering machine comprises pairs of rails 11, 12 which support a series of independent wheeled pallets 14 arranged in abutting relationship to form an endless belt. The curved ends of the rails 12 overlap the curved ends of the rails 11 and are secured at both feed end F and discharge end D to brackets 21 welded to connecting plates 22 which are secured to plates 23 fixed to the main framework 13. Shims 24 may be used between the rails and the brackets 12. The lowermost quadrants of the rails at both ends of the machine are formed to a curvature which is calculated to a law : # = (S/a)2 where # = the angle of inclination of the tangent to the curve in radians. S = the length of the periphery of the curve. a = constant which is dependent upon the unit of length used for " S." The curvature so formed is such that, during movement over these curved portions of the rails, the pallets are constrained to pivot about their central transverse axis, and adjacent ends of the pellets, during movement, are caused to roll upon one another instead of sliding relative to one another as would be the case with rails constructed as segments of a circle. The uppermost quadrants of the rails are formed as a true segment of a circle but have associated therewith cams 39, 40 for co-operating with rollers 31 of the pallets which are caused to pivot immediately prior to moving on to the upper straight section of the rails and immediately after leaving the straight section. The trailing rollers 32 of the pellets, due to portions 42 of reduced diameter, do not engage the cams 39, 40 and therefore follow the normal curvature of the rails. Pallet construction and drive.-A body casting 25 has end plates 28 bolted to it, the plates having projections 29, 30 for mounting the rollers 31, 32, and arcuate outer faces 37 for abutting engagement with faces of adjacent pallets. Inner faces 38 are formed for engagement by drive sprockets 16 provided at the feed end F of the machine. Grate bars 26, side plates 33 and sealing bars 35 are provided.
