Abstract
Cis-1,4-polybutadiene is separated from its polymerization solvent by first evaporating the crude polybutadiene suspension to a concentration of at least 50% and then further evaporating the suspension while being mechanically worked. The first evaporation may be assisted by the action of a rotating heated screw and the mechanical working carried out by a screw drier-extruder. One or both of the evaporation stages may be carried out under reduced pressure while a preconcentrator may be used for the first stage. The preconcentrator may comprise a rectangular boiler on the bottom of which along the greater side are two interconnecting screw conveyers; one or more of the screws may be bored for the circulation of a heat-exchange liquid.
