Abstract

939,414. Pneumatic suspension circuits closing devices. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. July 25, 1960 [July 29, 1959], No. 25844/60. Class 108(2). A circuit closing device of a pneumatic or hydropneumatic suspension system is characterized in that it is opened by a member responsive either to the depression existing in the engine manifold or to the engine lubricating oil circuit pressure. A suspension air reservoir 3, Fig. 1, communicates through orifice 25 with outlet 4 to the suspension system. A spring loaded valve 22 normally closes the orifice when the engine is stationary or ticking over but when the engine speed increases the manifold depression acts through communicating pipe 18 on the lower surface of diaphragm 13 against the force of spring 20 to lower the attached control rod 17 which opens valve 22 allowing communication between the reservoir and suspension system. When the manifold depression falls either at full throttle or when the engine stops the valve closes again. Fig. 3 shows a device controlled by the lubricating oil circuit pressure which acts on the upper face of a piston 30 against a spring 34 to lower rod 17 and hence open the valve between the reservoir and suspension system. The circuit closing device may also be fitted between a pneumatic spring and its exhaust to limit the minimum spring pressure.
