Abstract
A fuel cell electrode having a porous matrix (especially as disclosed in Specification 936,146 and 936,238) has an inert filler material in the pores of the matrix, the filler particles being substantially smaller in size than the particles used in preparing the porous matrix. Aluminium, magnesium or indium oxides are used as filler materials preferably 0.1-1 micron in a matrix formed of 1-20 micron particles. Silver or nickel powders (for the matrix) are mixed with inert filler the latter being 1-20% wt. of the mix, pressed at from 500 p.s.i.-2500 p.s.i. and sintered at 450 DEG C. for 20 mins. in air. Specific alloys are 69.5 Ag, 13 Ni, 17.5 Al2O3 and 78 Ag, 13Li, 9Al2O3.
