Abstract

938,191. Earth-boring apparatus. BADE & CO. G.m.b.H. Nov. 24, 1960 [June 9, 1960], No. 40404/60. Class 85. In a borehole-drilling rig a drilling unit 3 is positioned within and clamped to the lower end of a casing string 1 provided at the lower end with a cutting shoe 2. The casing string 1 is supported in a rotary table so that a rotational or oscillating movement may be applied to it together with a variable downward pressure. The drilling unit consists of an electric motor 8 operating an hydraulic pump 9 in the housing 3 of the unit. Liquid under pressure from the pump 9 drives hydraulic motors 12 which drive through gear trains 13, 40 a rotary cutter head or heads 15 rotatably mounted about a tubular extension 16 of the housing 3 which is clamped to the casing string 1 by jacks 6, 7 mounted on the housing. The drilling unit is disposed about a suction pipe 16. Specification 768,031 is referred to.
