Abstract

Newly cut or green wood is treated with an aqueous borate paste so concentrated and viscous that it adheres to the wood and allows diffusion thereinto until the desired flame retardancy is achieved. Other additional humidifiers &c. mentioned are sodium bisulphate, zinc chloride, magnesium chloride, glycerol, ethylene glycol, sodium silicate and sulphated long chain olefines. The treated wood may be wrapped in moisture-proof material.
