Abstract

A cutter link for a chain saw comprises a single plate having a flat body 1 with a pair of spaced-apart holes 3 for the reception of link pins and having along one edge two projections 5, 6 in the nature of teeth separated by a gullet 7, one of the teeth 6 constituting a spacer tooth to run along the workpiece and control the depth of cut, and the other 5 constituting a cutter tooth which is provided with a tip 10 of hard-cutting material e.g. tungsten carbide, permanently fixed thereto at or near the edge which forms one side of the gullet. The link may be used in a chain saw for cutting hard timber, such as teak, and stone-like abrasive materials. The cutter tooth 5 has a bent-over portion 9 and the tip is fitted into a groove 11 or to the squared-off end of the tooth and secured thereto by copper or other suitable brazing. The tip extends above and to one side of the portion 9 and may be at right angles, or inclined at an angle, to the body of the link; in the latter case the tip may have a rhomboidal shape. The front face of the tip may be grooved. Specification 846,973 is referred to.
