Abstract
A coating composition for electrophotographic plates comprises a natural or synthetic resin and a photoconductive 1:2:5:6-tetraazacyclooctatetraene substituted in the 3-, 4-, 7- and 8-positions by carbocylic or heterocyclic aromatic groups. A sensitizing dyestuff or chlorophyll may also be present. Specified solvents are methylene chloride, chloroform, methanol, glycol monomethyl ether, acetone, benzene and toluene. The support may be metal (e.g. aluminium of which the surface may be roughened), glass or a conductive resin. The composition may be applied by roller or by spraying.ALSO:Photoconductive resinous compositions comprise one or more 1:2:5:6-tetraaza-cyclooctatetraenes substituted in the 3-, 4-, 7- and 8-positions by carbocyclic or heterocyclic aromatic groups, together with a resin, and optionally a dyestuff, as in Specification 853,880. Suitable aza compounds are listed.ALSO:Tetra-aza-cyclo-octatetraenes of the formula <FORM:0937496/IV(a)/1> in which the R symbols denote carbocyclic or heterocyclic aromatic radicals, are made by melting together (or heating together in solution) 1 : 2-diketones and the dihydrazones of such diketones. In examples the R groups are phenyl, methoxyphenyl, ethoxyphenyl, phenoxyphenyl, methylenedioxyphenyl, chlorophenyl, 2-hydroxy-5-bromophenyl, dimethylaminophenyl and pyridyl.
