Abstract
937,162. Measuring electrically. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 10, 1960 [June 12, 1959], No. 20259/59. Class 40 (1). In a tilt-sensitive device in which a sealed curved tube 1 contains an electrically-conductive liquid 2 having bubble of a fluid of differing conductivity 3 and in which the resistance between a central electrode 6 and two end electrodes 4 and 5 is a measure of the deviations of the device from the level position, the central electrode is sealed into the wall of the tube at a point remote from the centre and extends to the centre through a tube 7 of insulating material within the envelope in order that the central portion of the tube should not be distorted by sealing the central electrode into position. In a modification the tube 7 may pass from end to end of the envelope and incorporate a passage through which the fluids may be introduced into the envelope. The device may be connected as two arms in a bridge circuit.
