Abstract
936,661. Boring-bars. G. A. MUNRO. Feb. 10, 1960, No. 4784/60. Class 83 (3). A boring-bar 21 has a ring-shaped cutter 29 secured thereto, the cutting- edge 35 being adjustable radially of the bar by rotation of the cutter. The bar 21 has a truncated end 23, a conical recess 24 in the end to receive the cutter 29, a screwed bore 28 joined to a larger bore 27, the bores and recess being coaxial and perpendicular to the truncated end of the bar. The cutter is secured by a screw 42 and a retainer 36, the latter having a head 37 with a conical face 38 which engages a corresponding face on the cutter 29, and a cut-away portion 39, to clear the cutting edge 35 of the cutter 29. The recess 24 is eccentric relative to the truncated end 23 so that on rotation of the cutter, the cutting edge 35 moves radially relative to the boring bar. The cutting edge 35 is radial to the body of the cutter 29. The cutter may have a cutting edge at each end to allow cutting when the boring bar is rotated clockwise or counterclockwise.
