Abstract
936,629. Transistor amplifiers. MINISTER OF AVIATION. Jan. 3, 1962 [Oct. 3, 1960], No. 33822/60. Class 40 (6). The gain of a transistor cascade amplifier is controlled by an A.C. shunt across the output of the input stage. As described, automaticgain control is applied to an I.F. amplifier by applying the D.C. gain control signal derived from diode D to the base of a transistor TS, the emitter-collector path of which is in series with capacitor C to shunt the output from transistor TI. A resistor X, Fig. 1, or a further transistor, Fig. 2 (not shown), may be included between the input stages TI and the output stage TO to reduce the changes in capacitance in the output circuit with changes in gain. A variable impedance diode or a manuallyvariable resistor may alternatively be used as shunts in place of transistor TS.
