Abstract
Alkaline earth metal soaps are obtained by mixing fat with an excess of alkaline earth metal hydroxide and either a monohydric alcohol of B.P. above 200 DEG F. or a polyol, heating sufficiently to initiate saponification and allowing reaction to go to completion. Maximum temperature is preferably 325 DEG F. and the amount of alcohol preferably from 0,5 to 10% by weight of the mixture. Dias well as tri-glycerides may be used, and the fats can be hydrogenated. Lists of suitable ingredients are given.
