Abstract
936,437. Rotary offset presses; cylinder tripping. MIEHLE-GOSS-DEXTER Inc. Feb. 21, 1962 [March 14, 1961], No. 6758/62. Class 100 (2). In a rotary offset perfecting press in which actuation of an hydraulic member 55 effects the simultaneous tripping of ink and water forme roller pairs 16, 17 and 21, 22 from the plate cylinders 14, 15 and the ink pick-up rollersonly one of which, 25, is shown-from the associated supply rollers such as 26, as well as the separation of the blanket cylinders 12, 13, the tripping of the ink pick-up roller 25 and the ink and water forme pairs may be effected manually through the operation of a handle 83, 81 or 82 mounted on a rotatable shaft 51, 35 or 41. The blanket cylinders and ink pick-up rollers are mounted in eccentric bearings whilst the ink and water forme pairs are adjustably spring-biased against the associated plate cylinder being mounted on pairs of swingable arms 31, 32 and 42, 43 at each end of respective shafts 33 and a shaft shown but not numbered. The arm pairs 31, 32 and 42, 43 at each end of their mounting shafts carry camfollowers which are actuated to " throw " the roller pairs by cams fixedly mounted on the handle shafts 35 and 41. To over-ride the control of the member 55 to trip any of the rollers 25, 16, 17, 21 and 22 the necessary handle or handles 83, 81, 82 is or are grasped and moved axially to thereby disengage the drive from the member 55, subsequent rotation of the or each withdrawn handle effecting rotation of its shaft and hence the tripping of the associated roller or rollers. The drive from the hydraulic member 55 is through a toggle mechanism 72, 73 to an oscillatable gear 76 in mesh with a gear 64 carried by the blanket cylinder 12. This gear meshes with a gear 65 carried by the blanket cylinder 13 and both cylinders carry crank plates 59, 60 connecting through suitable linkage members to crank plates 57, 56 and 58 mounted on the shafts 41, 35 and 51. The member such as 62 connecting to the plate 56 is outwardly spring-loaded to thus bias the ink pick-up roller against the supply roller. Each crank plate is freely mounted on its associated shaft 41, 35 or 51, rotational drive from the plate to the shaft being effected through a pin and hole connection 92, 91 such as is shown in Fig. 4, regarding the shaft 51 and its handle 83. The handle 83 is drivingly connected to the shaft through a pin and slot connection 86, 87, whilst being movable outwardly and axially relative to the shaft against a spring 95. The handle may be locked in its withdrawn position through the engagement of the end of the shaft 51 with a washer 100 which is slidable in a vertical plane and, after withdrawal of the handle, is allowed to drop into the position of Fig. 6. After any necessary manual actuation the washer 100 is released and the handle springs forward. Should the pin 92 and hole 91 not be aligned the point of the pin will engage the surface 88 adjacent the hole until an actuation of the member 55 causes the plate 58 to move thus allowing the pin and hole to re-engage, thereby re-establishing the drive of the shaft 51 from the member 55. Tripping movements of the shafts 51, 35 and 41 are limited through adjustable or resilient stop means 111, 112, 120, 121 and 122, 123.
