Abstract
935,880. Toys. DAISY MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 10, 1961 [March 10, 1961], No. 40387/61. Class 132 (3). A toy pistol comprises in combination a housing 22, a chamber housing 66 within the housing 22, a spring 86 pivotally mounted on the housing, a portion of the spring extending into the chamber housing for propelling pellets 134 disposed within the chamber housing, a hammer 38 pivotally supported on the housing operatively connected to the spring for moving the spring with respect to the chamber housing into a cocked position, a trigger 30 pivotally supported on the housing releasably engaging the hammer for locking the hammer against pivotal movement in one direction, latch means, a sear 96 restraining the spring in the cocked position when the hammer is in a predetermined position, and means including the trigger, the hammer and the sear for releasing the spring from the cocked position. To load the pistol with pellets, a flexible shot follower 48 in a subbarrel 42 and extending into a feed tube 60 is moved by a tab 52 against the action of a spring 46 to free an aperture 44 through which pellets are fed. The pellets are moved upwardly into the tube by the shot follower when it is released. A button 76 in the chamber 66 is urged by a spring 74 to close the entry of the tube to a bore 80 communicating with a firing barrel 64. To load a pellet into the bore, the hammer is pivoted to its extreme position, a draw link 98 on the hammer pivots the spring 86 so that it displaces the button 76 to allow a pellet to enter the bore 80, where it is retained by a projecting stop spring 78. The hammer is released to its cocked position where a portion on the trigger engages a shoulder on the hammer. and tensions spring 126. The spring is held by a projecting end of the sear so that the force acting on the hammer is reduced and lessens the pressure necessary on the trigger to fire the pistol. Pulling the trigger frees the hammer which rotates under the action of the spring 126, and a cam projector on the hammer strikes a groove on one end of the sear which pivots and releases the spring 86 which rotates and propels a pellet along the barrel 64.
