Abstract

935,832. Bell - type annealing furnaces. STEEL CO. OF WALES Ltd. July 18, 1960 [April 17, 1959], No. 13071/59. Class 51 (2). In a forced convection belltype annealing furnace, a scoop 6 is mounted in one or more of the gas passages 2 formed in a combined charge support and diffuser 1 to direct gas from the fan 5 through a radially disposed duct 7 on to the fan shaft near the support base 4. The scoop comprises a roof plate 8 welded to the outer wall of a gas passage, a flow-plate 9 and a side plate 10 defining a duet which turns downwardly along said wall and then radially and inwardly into the duct 7. A fin 11 projecting outwardly from the side plate 10 has a portion 11a inclined downwardly towards the duct 7 to help divert some of the gas. The scoop narrows in width in a downstream direction.
