Abstract

A synthetic resin article is formed with a layer of metal, e.g bronze, copper, brass, zinc, aluminium, stainless steel, tin or lead by coating a mould surface with the metal and applying an epoxy resin backing. The metal may be sprayed on the mould which is intensely cooled at the point of impact. The mould may be coated with synthetic resin or a metal to increase adhesion or alternatively a metal powder, e.g. zinc, may be added to material of the mould. The mould may be heated in a protective atmosphere or in a reducing gas or vapour, e.g. carbon monoxide or alcohol to the sintering temperature and may be compacted by hammering. The metal may be applied in layers not exceeding 0.1 mm. thick in separate strips, e.g. chequered or cross-wise. Alternatively, the metal may be sprayed into a refractory mould heated to a lower temperature than the melting point of the metal. The metal may be applied by coating by evaporation in a protective atmosphere.ALSO:A synthetic resin article is formed with a layer of metal, e.g bronze, copper, brass, zinc, aluminium, stainless steel, tin or lead, by coating a mould surface with the metal, applying a layer of epoxy resin and backing with a further layer of e.g. epoxy resin and glass fibre. The article may be a work of art, mould or pattern, a decorative part of a car body or a railing.
