Abstract
934,167. Tilting crucible furnaces. KANTHAL A.B. March 7, 1962 [April 21, 1961], No. 8832/62. Class 51 (2). [Also in Group XI] A portion of the bottom and side wall of a crucible furnace containing the crucible pivots outwardly from the main furnace to empty the crucible. The portions 10A and 11A in Fig. 1 hold the crucible 15 by means of ribs 35 and 28 and are supported by a frame 16 pivoted at 17, movement being controlled by the jack 19. A sloping portion 29 leads to a channel 30 which is provided with a plug 31 mounted on a doublearmed, counterbalanced lever. Sand or fluid seals are provided at 26 and 27 and also where adjoining portions have abutting shoulders. The U-shaped electric heating elements 39, which are embedded at their upper ends in removable refractory plugs 41 fitted with lifting handles, extend into the furnace between radial ribs and consist substantially of molybdenum disilicide. The lid 13 may be opened by means of the hydraulic jack 13B and the cover 37 may be raised for inspection.
