Abstract
933,996. Electric motors; converting. GENERAL PRECISION Inc. Aug. 2, 1961 [Sept. 19, 1960], No. 28075/61. Classes 35 and 38 (2). A brushless D.C. motor has a cylindrical permanent magnet rotor comprising a narrow part which is surrounded by a Hall effect band deposited on a ferrite ring and connected to the field coils and a broad part which rotates within the stator core. The D.C. motor shown, Fig. 6, has a permanent magnet rotor 23 mounted on shaft 24 and divided in two sections by groove 29. The wider section 23a co-operates with stator 25 while the narrow portion 23b cooperates with a Hall generator band 27 deposited on ferrite ring 28. The Hall generator band performs the commutation and acts as a D.C.-A.C. conversion device. The leads from the stator to the Hall generator strip may be encapsulated Fig. 7 (not shown). The stator may be laminated or fabricated from ferrite material. The Hall generator can be in the form of one or more rings made up of indium arsenide, germanium, silicon and may take the form of a solid metal crystal deposited on the ferrite strip.
