Abstract
933,480. Bottle crates. NOVO INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION. Nov. 14, 1960 [Nov. 13, 1959; May 3, 1960], No. 39116/60. Class 18. A carrying case 10 for bottles and the like comprises a perforated plastic base 12 with upstanding plastic handles 36 at each end formed integrally with the base, and two U-shaped metal wall sections 16 which are locked together around the handles so that the load carried is applied directly to the handles. The case is divided into four or more equal compartments by removable intersecting plastic walls 60, 61 longitudinally and laterally placed. The base 12 has the form shown in Fig. 1 viz. a grill of diagonally intersecting struts, and is surrounded by a rim 20 having a flange 22 as in Fig. 3, whose outer edge is turned down to form an outer leg 24 and an inner leg 26. The sides 14 have their lower edges 28 crimped round and under the above outer leg 24 of the rim, and their corners strengthened by beadings 32. Each handle 36 is formed by an upstanding panel 38 as an integral part of the rim 20 of the base 12 and has a beading 40 defining a handle opening 42. The beading has a continuous outer groove 44 into which are fitted slots in the engaging edges of the U-shaped wall sections 16 whose overlap at 46 carries a rivet 48 and a lap-over bracket 50 to secure the joint. The partition walls 60 and 61 are similar in form and comprise a series of panels 62 as shown in Fig. 3 connected by neck portions 68 suitably slotted at the centre of the walls to permit intersection. The end panel of the longitudinal wall 60 has a dovetail enlargement 74 fitting into a dovetail groove 76 in the handle panel 38 as in Fig. 3. The walls 60, 61 have spaced buttons 80 along their lower edges which press into open-ended sockets formed in the openings between adjacent diagonal struts in the base as shown in Fig. 1. The walls have off-set panels on their longitudinal sides to provide a surface suitable for advertising matter.
