Abstract

A detergent composition comprises a hydrazinium salt of the formula:- <FORM:0933465/III/1> where R represents a C8-24-aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C1-7-hydroxyalkyl radical, a C8-24-alkoxy-C1-7-alkyl radical, a C8-24-alkylamino-C1-7-alkyl radical, a C8-24-acyclic acyloxy-C1-7-alkyl radical, a C8-24-acycli acylamino-C1-7-alkyl radical, a C8-24-acyclic acyloxy-C1-7-alkylamino (or substituted amino)-C1-7-alkyl radical, or an alkaryloxy alkoxy alkyl radical, R1 represents a C1-24-aliphatic hydrocarbon radica1, a C1-7-hydroxy-alkyl radical, a hydroxy-poly-C1-7-alkoxy-C1-7-alkyl radical, a C8-24-aliphatic acyloxy-C1-7-alkyl radical, or a C8-24-aliphatic acylamino-C1-7-alkyl radical, R11 represents a C1-24-aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C1-7-amino-alkyl radical, a C1-7-hydroxyalkyl radical, a hydroxy-poly-C1-7-alkoxy-C1-7-alkyl radical or a C8-24-aliphatic acyloxy-C1-7-alkyl radical or R1 and R11 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form an imidazoline, morpholine, piperidine or pyrrolidine ring or a corresponding ring containing a substituent group (e.g. an alkyl group) and A represents an anion of a C8-24-alkanoic acid, a C8-24 alkanoic acid, a C10-24-alkylsulphonic acid, an alkanoyl-amino (or substituted amino)C1-7-alkylsulphonic acid, an alkarylsulphonic acid, a poly (alkaryl) sulphonic acid, an abeitic acid or a polymerized oleic acid, in admixture with an excess of a non-hydrazinium salt containing the anion A, e.g. a soap. Such compositions may be formulated into bars. Specification 884,775 is referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises hydrazinium salts of the formula:-<FORM:0933465/IV(a)/1> wherein R represents a C8-24 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C1-7 hydroxyalkyl radical, a C8-24 alkoxy-C1-7 alkyl radical, a C8-24 alkyl amino-C1-7 alkyl radical, a C8-24 acyclic acyloxy-C1-7 alkyl radical, a C8-24 acyclic acylamino-C1-7 alkyl radical, a C8-24 acyclic acyloxy-C1-7 alkylamino (or substituted amino)-C1-7 alkyl radical, or an alkaryloxy alkoxy alkyl radical, R1 represents a C1-24 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C1-7 hydroxyalkyl radical, a hydroxy-poly-C1-7 alkoxy-C1-7 alkyl radical, a C8-24 aliphatic acyloxy-C1-7 alkyl radical, or a C8-24 aliphatic acylamino-C1-7 alkyl radical, R11 represents a C1-24 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C1-7 aminoalkyl radical, a C1-7 hydroxyalkyl radical, a hydroxypoly-C1-7 alkoxy-C1-7 alkyl radical or a C8-24 aliphatic acyloxy-C1-7 alkyl radical, or R1 and R11 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form an imidazoline, morpholine, piperidine or pyrrolidine ring or a corresponding ring containing a substituent group (e.g. an alkyl group) and A represents an anion of a C8-24 alkanoic acid, a C8-24 alkenoic acid, a C10-24 alkylsulphonic acid, an alkanoyl-amino (or substituted amino)-C1-7 alkylsulphonic acid, an alkarylsulphonic acid, a poly (alkaryl) sulphonic acid, an abeitic acid or a polymerized oleic acid. The above hydrazinium salts are prepared by reacting a hydrazinium salt containing the desired cation (e.g. an appropriate hydrazinium chloride) with a compound containing the desired anion (e.g. an alkali metal salt of the organic acid providing the anion), if desired in an aqueous or organic solvent medium and/or with heating. The salts may be used for emulsifying or sterilizing oils and as additives to soaps, toothpastes and petroleum products. Specification 884,775 is referred to.ALSO:A toothpaste contains as an additive having an antibacterial and foaming action a hydrzinium salt of the formula <FORM:0933465/VI/1> wherein R represents a C8-24 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C1-7 hydroxyalkyl radical, a C8-24 alkoxy-C1-7 alkyl radical, a C8-24 alkylamino-C1-7 alkyl radical, a C8-24 acyclic acyloxy-C1-7 alkyl radical, a C8-24 acyclic acylamino-C1-7 alkyl radical, a C8-24 acyclic acyloxy-C1-7 alkylamino (or substituted amino)-C1-7 alkyl radical, or an alkaryloxy alkoxy alkyl radical, R1 represents a C1-24 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C1-7 hydroxyalkyl radical, a hydroxy-poly-C1-7 alkoxy-C1-7 alkyl radical, a C8-24 aliphatic acyloxy-C1-7 alkyl radical, or a C8-24 aliphatic acylamino-C1-7 alkyl radical, R11 represents a C1-24 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C1-7 aminoalkyl radical, a C1-7 hydroxyalkyl radical, a hydroxy-poly-C1-7 alkoxy-C1-7 alkyl radical or a C8-24 aliphatic acyloxy-C1-7 alkyl radical, or R1 and R11 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form an imidazoline, morpholine, piperidine or pyrrolidine ring or a corresponding ring containing a substituent group (e.g. an alkyl group) and A represents an anion of a C8-24 alkanoic acid, a C8-24 alkenoic acid, a C10-24 alkylsulphonic acid, an alkanoyl-amino (or substituted amino)-C1-7 alkylsulphonic acid, an alkarylsulphonic acid, a poly-(alkaryl) sulphonic acid, an abeitic acid a polymerized oleic acid.
