Abstract
932,093. Electric conductors. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Dec. 15, 1961 [Dec. 16, 1960], No. 43467/60. Class 36. An electric conductor system for transmission of heavy current comprises at least two mutually spaced groups of conductors, each group consisting of a plurality of mutually spaced, conducting rods of circular cross-section, the rods of each group being connected in parallel to one another. As described, a plurality of parallel rods of copper, aluminium or an aluminium alloy are arranged in three parallel groups, each group forming a cylindrical cage. At each end of each group the conductors 2 are electrically connected together by a copper ring 6 with an electric terminal 7. Each group of conductors is supported at regular intervals by rings 3 of the same material as the rods threaded over the conductors and supported by insulators 5. Suitable transposition of conductors inside the rings is effected either by first threading the conductors through helical holes of rings 3, which is then twisting to its final position, or by joining the conductors end-to-end by helical segments 15 having grooves at each end face and (Fig. 4) insulatingly joined to form rings 3. For long runs of such a transmission system short lengths of conductors may be soldered end-to-end or joined end-to-end by compression or expansion joints or as above by using segmented rings 3. Each group of conductors may also comprise conductors arranged in flat formation.
