Abstract
931,518. Feeding devices for cutting machines. H. SPEISER, [trading as W. SPEISER [firm of]]. Aug. 19, 1960 [Sept. 3, 1959], No. 28821/60. Class 5(1). [Also in Group XXX] A receiving device 1 collects material from the ground and feeds it up to a verticallyadjustable, horizontal, driven worm 4 which gathers the material into a narrower strip and deposits it on conveyer means. As shown, the crop is lifted by rotating prongs 2 on to a table 3 beneath the left and right hand threaded worm 4. The worm 4 deposits the crop on conveyer 8 which passes it to presser rollers 10, 11 from which it passes to cutting and conveying mechanism 12. The spindle 6 carrying worm 4 is secured to levers 15, 16 pivoted on extensions 13<SP>1</SP> of a driven spindle 13 which also carries a conveyer roller 14. A chain-wheel 18 on one extension 13<SP>1</SP> drives spindle 6 through chain 19 and wheel 20. The other extension 13<SP>1</SP> may be omitted and lever 16 pivoted to the machine frame 9. Pins 25 connected to levers 15, 16 engage slots 24 in supports 22 articulated to frame 9, movement being limited by the length of slots 24. Alternatively, the ends of spindle 6 could engage slots 24 directly or stops may be provided on frame 9. Helical springs 26 bias levers 15, 16 downwardly on to the crop. The spindle 29 of roller 11 may be mounted between pivoted levers 27, 28 pressed down by springs 30. Roller 11 can also be driven from spindle 13.
