In an electrostatic precipitator comprising interleaved rows of emission and collecting electrodes 6, 5 disposed horizontally in the plane of gas flow with the electrodes side-by-side in each row, each emission electrode 6 comprises a flat plate having its side edges bent substantially at right a igles to the plane of the row to stiffen the plate and each said side edge has rows of emission points 7 struck out therefrom to extend in opposite directions.
