Abstract

931,202. Valves. RADIATION Ltd. Dec. 29, 1961 [Feb. 2, 1961], No. 4011/61. Class 135. A gas-control valve is constructed to permit variation at will in gas flow between two predetermined rates by actuation between a high and low rate setting position but to stop gas flow when actuated to any position below said low rate setting position. The valve comprises a housing 1 with an inlet port 2 and an outlet port 3 in a bore 4 containing a rotatable and axially displaceable valve member 9. When the member is axially displaced to the left against spring pressure a pin 26 on the spindle 8 traverses slots 34 in washers 29, 30 and is locked behind the innermost washer 29 once the spindle is turned to hold a single beat closure 12 off its seat 14 to provide the minimum gas flow through a bore 20. Rotation of the spindle causes the pin to engage a slot 35 when a port 16 registers with the inlet 2 and subsequently to engage a slot 36 when the port 16 and a port 17 both partly register with the inlet to provide a setting intermediate minimum and full on. In the latter setting the pin 26 engages a shoulder 37 on a series of washers 28. To prevent accidental operation of the valve, additional slotted washers may be provided on the outer surface of the washers 30 to receive the pin 26 when the valve is in the off position.
