[Also in Group XIX] Rotation of a pair of rollers 24, 26, delivering fibre strands 20 to a bobbin before and upon which they are twisted into a single yarn 22 and wound, causes a follower 54 of a cam 56 eccentrically rotating about the axis of one of the rollers and forming part of a counting mechanism 50 to actuate intermittently a control means which permits a drive to the mechanism until a predetermined length of yarn has been fed to the bobbin whereupon the feed of yarn by the rollers is arrested. When a strand 20 breaks, or when counter 50 permits, a corresponding drop wire or sensing element 55 falls into engagement with a wiper drum 57 and, in consequence, latch release mechanism 59 rotates a hitch 46 about pivot 47 to cause cam surface 49 to rock a cradle 28 about a pivot 30 and, by means of bosses 36 and 38, lift shafts 25, 27, to free rollers 24, 26 from engagement with driving roller'42. Cradle 28 is maintained in operative position by a manually operable latch 43. In the counter 50, Figs. 2-6 (not shown), movements of follower 54 actuates a ratchet sub-assembly the operation of which by a drive sub-assembly (comprising a clock spring) may be stopped by a control subassembly (comprising a notched cam and follower) the initial manual adjustment or setting thereof, in correspondence with the length of yarn to be measured, winds the spring to cock the drive assembly.
