A binder for loose leaves, periodicals &c., comprises a spine strip 2 provided with channelled &c. sides 4 to receive withdrawable hinge pins 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, and filing bars &c. 5 which have holes in the ends to receive the hinge pins and which fit in recesses in the sides 4. The filing bars 5 can be removed when both pins are withdrawn, or hinged about one pin when the other pin is withdrawn. As shown in Fig. 3, a cover 7 is gripped between a backing strip 1 and the strip 2; and in Fig. 6, covers 9, 10 are hinged to the pins 6, 6<SP>1</SP>. Perforated sheets &c. may be filed on the bars 5, but preferably the sheets &c. are provided with perforated lugs 13, Fig. 8, or a longitudinal strip formed with spaced perforations. The strips 14, Fig. 13, may be made from paper, plastic, or metal strip which is folded centrally so that two filing perforations 15 are superimposed, and the strip is then stapled to the back of one or more folded leaves 16. The lugs 13, Fig. 8, may be similarly made and applied to leaves. In further examples, a periodical, folder, &c., is secured to a folded strip 14 by a transverse staple 18, Fig. 3; or a strip 17, Fig. 3, formed by triple folding to embrace the sides of the periodical &c., is secured thereto by a transverse staple 18.
