Classes 79(2) and 79(5) [Also in Group XXIV] In a vehicle transmission wherein an engine driven swash plate type pump supplies fluid to one or more motors for driving the vehicle wheels or tracks, the angularity of the swash plate is adjustable to vary the speed ratio by driver operable means including a lever angularly movable about a fulcrum which can be preset to determine the maximum output from the pump. As shown in Fig. 1, the swash plate 3 is adjustable by a servo cylinder 4 responding to a plunger 5 operated by a cam 7 the angularity of which is controlled from a pedal 15 acting through a link 14, levers 13 and 10 and links 8 and 9. Stops 28 and 29 are provided to limit the movement of pedal 15 in positions for forward and reverse directions of motion corresponding to the maximum forward or reverse speeds of the engine. A catch piece 16 arrests movement of the pedal at a midway position of the cam corresponding to zero angularity of the swash plate-or neutral-to prevent accidental engagement of a reverse drive. The fulcrum 17 of lever 13 is connected to a slide 18 and may be moved by a handle 27 acting through links 25, 24, 23, 21 and 20 so that the movement of the cam 7 can be varied for a given movement of the pedal 15. Since the angular movement of the pedal 15 is limited, the maximum output of the pump can be predetermined. The linkage associated with handle 27 is such that in one extreme position, the swash plate is in a position of zero obliquity. In a modification, Fig. 2, the plunger 5 is connected to a lever 30 to which is connected a cam follower 31 and an L- shaped lever 32 upon which is mounted another cam follower 33, the levers 30 and 32 also being connected by a coil spring 34 so that the followers 31 and 33 are urged into contact with the cam 7. The follower 33 engages a notch in the cam 7 at a point corresponding to the position of zero angularity of the pump swash plate whereby the catch 16 may be omitted.
