Abstract
Gas sampling means for a gas-cooled nuclear <PICT:0928216/III/1> reactor comprises selector valves 11 each associated with a group of fuel channels of the reactor core and arranged to withdraw gas samples from the individual channels in sequence, the valves being operated in sequence by electric motors 16 regulated by a controller 22. The samples are supplied through a discharge pipe 18 to a common fission products detector 13, the output signals from which are transmitted by a circuit 26 to the corresponding one of four recorders 24. Each valve has an off-position 20, and is associated with a gas flow indicator 30 (see Group XXXVII) in the pipe 18. These indicators detect the beginning and end of gas flow through each valve and electrical signals produced at these times are transmitted to an alarm 31 which also receives signals from the recorders 24. The alarm is automatically operated if any valve 11 gets out of step with its associated recorder 24.
