Abstract

927,600. Load-handling machines. AMALGAMATED DENTAL CO. Ltd. Jan. 6, 1960 [June 16, 1959], No. 20689/59. Addition to 878,714. Class 78 (3). A hoist mechanism for a dental chair, stool or operating table as claimed in the parent Specification, comprises an hydraulic ram 3, a reservoir 11 for hydraulic fluid with a supply and a return connection to the ram (via valves 7 and 9, respectively), a compressed-air inlet 21 and outlet 22 for pressurizing space above the hydraulic fluid and operatorcontrolled first valve means 16, 18 for regulating the air pressure in the reservoir 11, and second valve means 9 for isolating hydraulic fluid in the ram 3 from the reservoir 11. As shown, the two valve means are combined, and are manually-controlled by a cam 20 which is turned to open either the inlet valve 16 and the valve 7, or the outlet valve 18 and the valve 9. The ram may be locked in position by turning the cam into the neutral position shown. A lazy tongs mechanism 1 is pivotally attached at 4 to the ram 3 and supports a plate 23 for receiving the dental chair or operating table. The valve 9 may be housed within the reservoir 11 and may be pneumatically remote controlled.
