Abstract

926,447. Brushes. OSBORN MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 7, 1961 [Sept. 22,1960], No. 32197/61. Class 19. An end brush comprises a cup-shaped holder 1, a cylindrical sheet metal ring 4 located within the holder and about which brush material is doubled with the ends protruding from the holder in an annular layer, the brush also comprising a central element secured within the holder and supporting the radially inner side of the layer of brush material and co-operating with the lip 5 of the cup 1 to retain the ring 4 and brush material in place. A method of making the brush is also described. As shown the central element comprises a cylindrical sheet metal element 6 having a lateral flange 7 extending outwardly and beneath the doubled brush material and seated against the bottom 8 of the cup. The outer end 9 of the element 6 protrudes beyond the inwardly compressed lip 5 of the cup 1 and is flared outwardly thereby to co-operate with the lip 5. In a modification the central member 6 comprises a solid, cylindrical plug. The bristles employed may comprise tampico fibre, plastic coated wire, crimped steel wire &c. and they may be embedded in sponge material or other adhesive.
