Abstract

2-Amino-3-chloro-quinoxaline is made by passing dry ammonia gas through 2:3-dichloroquinoxaline in N-methylpyrrolidone at 140-143 DEG C. 2-Amino-3:6-dichloroquinoxaline is similarly prepared from 2:3:6-trichloroquinoxaline.ALSO:Fluorubin and its substitution products containing halogen atoms and/or alkyl radicals of 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the 1 to 4 and 8 to 11 positions are made by heating 2-amino-3-chloroquinoxaline or an appropriate substitution product thereof to a temperature from 140 DEG to 300 DEG C. An organic solvent such as dimethyl formamide, N-methyl- or N-ethyl-pyrrolidone-(2) or -piperidone-(2), di- or tri-chlorobenzene, nitrobenzene, methylnaphthalene, diphenyl or diphenyl oxide and an acid-binding agent such as sodium or potassium carbonate may be present. The 2-amino-3-chloroquinoxaline may be formed from 2:3-dichloroquinoxaline and heated in situ. Examples are given. The products are yellow pigments for varnishes and printing inks.
