[Also in Group XXIX] An oxygen demand regulator, for high altitude use, has a diaphragm-controlled valve 13 for controlling the passage of oxygen from an inlet 14 to a nozzle device 18 where it issues into a mixing chamber 20, entraining ambient air through a flap valve 24 so that the mixture passes to an outlet 21. Increase in altitude causes an aneroid capsule 25 to expand and progressively close a valve 32 and thereby reduce the proportion of air in the mixture until, at a predetermined point, the initial tension in a spring 30 is released and a valve 20<SP>x</SP> is thereby allowed to open and pass a considerably greater flow of oxygen. Subsequently, the valve 32 is closed completely. For emergency use the stem 27, on which the fixed end of the capsule 25 is mounted, is associated with a cam device 36 so that, by moving a handle 35, the valve 20<SP>x</SP> can be opened immediately.
