The safe load which can be applied to a chain sling is indicated by the intersection of a notional line 8 joining corresponding points on the legs 2, 3 of the sling with graduations 7 on a pendant scale 6. The scale may consist of a graduated chain or rope, or a chain interrupted at intervals by plates, coloured or otherwise marked.
