Simple basic and composite frames for use in buildings as built-in cupboards, door- and window &c. frames, are constructed from metal &c. sheet profiled sections in the form of an angular version of the figure "3" the upper part 10, Fig. 1, which, forming the inner part of the frame is of channel U-shape and is adapted to be fixed as by bolts and nuts 12 to one or more holding parts 1 mounted on the inner surface 2 of the hole accommodating the frame whereas the lower portion of the " 3 " is of channel section 7 normal to the upper section 10 and has its upper side connected to the lower side of the upper section 10 and lying in the same plane as the limiting edges of the sides of the section 10 which abut against the inner wall surface 2, the limiting edge of the other side of the section 7 bearing against the wall structure just outside the openings. The upper channel 10 may be replaced by an L-section and the channel being completed by the base 10 resting on a projecting arm of the side 6 of the mounting part 1. The holding part 1 may take the form of an L-section, the side contacting the frame section being bent over to form a flange which bears against the side of the part 10. Two " 3 "- sectioned frames may be placed face-to-face, as shown in Fig. 6, and connected together by means of a cleat 44 and when used as a cupboard frame, the cleat may have a projecting member 58 to support a shelf board, or when used in a partition the member 58 may provide an intermediate support. When separated, the gap between the sections 7 may be filled by a part 47. The sections 7 may touch and the cleat may be provided with flanges to which the other portions 46 of the basic frames may be secured by bolts &c. (Fig. 40, not shown). To secure such frames as in Fig. 6 to a wall &c., an anchoring device as shown in Fig. 39 may be used. This comprises an anchoring member 69 having a contoured part 70 to be gripped by mortar &c. in a masonry joint and a frameholding member 71 pivoted to the end of anchor 69. The member 71 has a shape corresponding to the profile of the frame. Joints between the adjacent sides of a frame or between the sides and mullions or transomes, Fig. 4, are effected by lugs 38 on one part adapted to project through corresponding holes or slots 37 in the other part, the holes 37 being of such shape and size as to allow for the insertion of a screw-driver &c. for bending the lugs to form the joint. Various types of composite frames are illustrated.
