Abstract
924,828. Artificial trees. G. E. ELDERTON. Nov. 9, 1960, No. 38543/60. Class 63. An artificial tree comprises a trunk, a plurality of stiffly flexible branches connected to, and substantially radiating from, the trunk and a mass of fine filaments radiating from each branch in an unbroken mass along substantially its whole length, the arms being bendable to lie against, or at any angle to, the trunk. The trunk 11 of, e.g., wood, glass or plastics material supports whorls 13-16 of branches, each branch 25 being formed of two entwined metal wires 27, 28 with filaments 30 anchored between them. Each branch may then be wound into an extended spiral, Fig. 5, with the outer end bent back at 34 and the inner end 42 bound to the trunk 11 by wire (not shown). Alternatively, the inner end 59, Fig. 11, is forced through a sleeve 57 of plastics material and bent downwardly by downward movement of a sleeve 56. The inner sleeve may be omitted, mounting of the sleeve 57 on the trunk causing the end to bend downwardly. In another form of tree (not shown) the trunk comprises two heavy wires entwined and the branches are formed in pairs with an intermediate portion gripped between the two wires. A branch bearing filaments 30 may be wound round the wire trunk.
