Abstract
924,631. Artificial eyelashes. E. D. K. TURNER. March 21, 1961 [Jan. 15, 1960], No. 1636/60. Class 131. Artificial eyelashes are formed from a strip 3 of a fur-bearing pelt, the lash filaments 5 being provided by the hairs of the pelt which are bonded together at the ends attached to the leather base 4. The strip, cut transversely from a section removed longitudinally from a pelt so that the hairs extend beyond one edge of the strip, is stretched lengthwise to space the hairs and adhesive is applied on one or both surfaces to bond the hairs on the leather. The adhesive forms a filament to form a base for the lashes when the leather 4 is trimmed as shown in Fig. 6 or removed. In modifications, the base is formed by a pliable strip of self-adhesive material applied to both sides of eyelashes or the strip 3 is placed on a strip of backing material with the hairs projecting over one edge of the backing strip and a line of adhesive, applied to each side, bonds the hairs to the backing. The hairs are curled after the adhesive has set and before trimming. A selfadhesive liquid may be applied over the bonding adhesive.
