Abstract
Polyvinyl chloride resins and nitrocellulose lacquers are coloured by incorporating therein water insoluble mono-azo dyes of one of the general formula <FORM:0924518/IV(a)/1> or <FORM:0924518/IV(a)/2> wherein X represents a halogen atom, an alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy or carboxylic acid ester group, Y stands for a halogen atom, a trifluoromethyl, nitro, cyano, carboxylic acid ester or amide group, a substituted carboxylic acid amide group, a sulphonic ester group, a sulphonic amide group which may be substituted, an alkyl sulphonic or aryl sulphonic group or an acyl group derived from a carboxylic acid, R1 represents a hydrogen or a halogen atom, an alkyl, alkoxy or acylamino group, R2 stands for a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkyl or alkoxy group and R3 stands for a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aralkyl, aryloxyalkyl or vinyl group (see Group IV(c)).ALSO:The invention comprises water-insoluble monoazo-dyestuffs having one of the following general formula <FORM:0924518/IV(a)/1> or <FORM:0924518/IV(a)/2> in which X represents a halogen atom, an alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy or carboxylic ester group, Y stands for a halogen atom, a trifluoromethyl, nitro cyano, carboxylic acid ester or carboxylic acid amide group, a substituted carboxylic acid amide group, a sulphonic acid ester group, a sulphonic acid amide group which may be substituted, an alkyl sulphonic group, an aryl sulphonic group or an acyl group dervied from a carboxylic acid, R1 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkyl, alkoxy or acylamino group, R2 stands for a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkyl or alkoxy group and R3 stands for a hydrogen atom, an alkyl, aralkyl, aryloxyalkyl or vinyl group. The dyes are prepared by coupling diazonium compounds prepared from appropriately substituted anilines with appropriately substituted 2, 3 - hydroxynaphthoic arylamides. Examples are furnished. The products are used for colouring various synthetic resins and nitrocellulose lacquers (see Group IV(a)).
