Abstract
923,489. Supply systems for X-ray apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 27, 1959 [Oct. 30, 1958], No. 36394/59. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (a)] A control system for an X-ray tube 21 having two filamentary cathodes 1, 2 for providing focal spots of different sizes when the tube is used for differing purposes such as radiography or X-ray screening has the cathodes 1, 2 energized from a transformer 3, 4 by way of a selector switch 11 and a number of halfwave rectifying devices 7, 9, 13, 14. The filament to be used is selected by operation of the switch 11 and the arrangement reduces the number of interconnecting leads between the X-ray tube housing 22 and the control desk 32. A resistor 15 may be included in series with the cathode 2 to reduce the current flowing in that cathode or the transformer 3, 4 may be provided with a further secondary winding so that each cathode is fed from a different secondary winding. The current in the cathode is in the form of alternate half-cycles of the supply voltage either positive or negative as the case may be but an alternative arrangement shows a system employing full-wave rectification.
