Apparatus for cleaning an ink roller comprises a flexible blade having a longitudinal bow, and a support for the blade for moving the blade into and out of engagement with tne roller in such manner that the plane of the blade when in engagement with the roller is substantially tangential to a curve described about the axis of the roller at a distance from the axis approximately equal to one half the radius of the roller. For cleaning the inking rollers 12, 14, 18-21, Fig. 1, a solvent is sprayed on to the upper vibrator roller 18, and the roller is engaged by a nylon blade 22 carried at each end on a support 25, surplus ink passing into a trough 40. Each support 25 comprises a bracket 26 pivoted on a machine frame member 10 by means of a plunger having a handle 33 and passing through a hole in the bracket into a socket in the member 10, being urged into the socket by a helical spring. By drawing the plungers inwards, the blade assembly can be removed from the machine, the plungers sliding in slots 56 in the members 10, which slots are shallower than the sockets. Each bracket 26 carries a screw whose head 46<SP>1</SP> is a cam follower, whereby the blade can be moved into or out of contact with the roller by rotating, by means of a handle 52, a shaft 51 eccentrically carrying cams 41. Acting in opposition to each cam is a spring 42 surrounding a rod 43 whose enlarged end 45 abuts a rod 86. The pressure of the blade against the roller is adjusted independently at each end by rotating the screw heads 46<SP>1</SP>. The blade is bowed so that when it is out of contact with the roller its middle portion is nearer to the roller than its ends. In another form, Fig. 7, the blade 22 is mounted above the trough 64 on plates 65 pivoted at 66 to brackets 67 pivoted on the members 10, the blade angle being adjustable by screws 66<SP>1</SP>. In another form, Fig. 8, the blade supporting elements 71<SP>1</SP> extend upwardly from the pivots 71, and the blade angle is adjustable by screws 73, 74 threaded through a bracket member 75 secured to an arm 76 carrying the cam-following screws.
