Abstract

A composition for use in the production of ceramic bodies comprises a conventional ceramic mixture and a calcium silicate-fluoride mixture, which may be incorporated therein in an amount up to 75% by weight of the composition. The calcium silicate-fluoride mixture, which prevents moisture expansion, may be obtained as a co-product from the reduction of calcium phosphate and silica in the "furnace" production of phosphorus or by fusing together in molecular proportions constituents as follows:- CaO 12 to 20, SiO2 10 to 16 and CaF2 1 to 5 moles. An example of the latter method is given in weight proportions: limestone 85 parts, SiO2 44,5 parts and CaF2 8,2 parts.
